Special Needs Services Available for District 51

Does your group need a professional signer for the hearing impaired?

The District Special Needs Committee can help. Please e-mail us.

•   The District 51 Meetings List indicates what meetings have handicapped support,

•   Babysitting services, and other languages. The District 51 meeting list is http://www.aadistrict51.org/meeting_list.html.

•   A list of Area 20 meetings with interpreters (signers) is NIA Signed Meeting Schedule.

•   VCR Tapes of American Sign Language Big Book and the 12 and 12 are available. These can be loaned to the AA who needs them.

•   Area 20 has a lending library of various large print, Braille, VHS and cassette tape versions of AA material.

•   The Big Book is available online at http://www.aa.org/bigbookonline

•   A list of interpreters(signers) registered by the Illinois Department of Deaf and Hard of Hearing is available at http://www.idhhc.state.il.us/interpreter/interpreter.htm.  A group conscience usually determines in what manner funds will be raised to compensate the interpreter as well as allowing a non-AA member at a meeting.

When anyone, anywhere, reaches out for help,

I want the hand of A.A. always to be there

and for that I AM RESPONSIBLE.
